Every square you leave behind is sealed off for the rest of the game.
The board shrinks as you play, and it shrinks fastest where the fighting is. Shuffling a piece back and forth is no longer free, because each shuffle costs two squares. Endgames arrive early and cramped.
What changes
The board starts the same way standard chess does.
Standard chess: Classical chess. Checkmate the king.
